Yeah, they're pretty amazing, but not worth the price IMO.
I heard that they were very worth their price... but i haven't played them.

OK, I am back...
Well, speaking of the price - IMO they are really PRICELESS. Consider the way they make them, the way they look, the way they sound, the limited numbers. It is a RARE cymbal.
I just listed my 20" on Ebay to see what happens since it's the very first one to go on there. I have the 22" which I prefer since I have never previously owned a 22" ride... it just sounds bigger, darker and trashier, much like a 22" Medium Constantinople (which are just as expensive, if not MORE!). The stick definition is nice and woody (not pingy or clangy), the bell is surprisingly LOUD and the crash is to die for... it's the perfect cymbal. I could get way further into the details if you are interested. Sabian dosen't even have samples of these on their site yet. Infact the place I got them from was one of the only retailers in Canada to get them so far.
*If* you ever see one at a local shop - give it a try. They have light models too, but I have a feeling that the Mediums are the ones to go for.

question....which one do you think best serves an 'all around' type playing situation. mostly 'pop' rock, blues, maybe even some heavy rock, dance type stuff. i play very few jazz gigs....so keep that in mind.
20" - 22".... light? medium?
thanks
the cymbal cetainly 'looks' awesome!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I don't think that the Artisan ride would be the right choice unless you were playing 'interesting' (as in other than straight) ride patterns. It really shines when you play 'figures' on it - the wash is beautiful and the 'stick' sound is just right. If money is no object, definitely get one, but I think the HHX and HH have a lot to offer too.Originally posted by zombywoof:

Either way, remember that since these are entirely hand crafted, they will all sound very different. If you were to play three or four of the same weight, they would all have different characteristics even though there would be obvious similarities.
At almost $400 U.S., you would want to make sure that you got the one that was right for YOU. I don't think many stores will stock more than 2 or 3 of them, so that won't be easy.
Remember that Sabian has a custom program where they will make you a cymbal to your own specs (using the same process as whichever line you're interested in) and not charge anything extra for it (you just gotta wait for it). I was thinking of ordering a 22" HHX Stage Ride or 22" HH Medium Heavy Ride (since they only come in 20").
All valid points, drumming sort of person! I pretty much agree with all of the above...
As for the 20" vs the 22" this is the insight that I can offer...
20" Medium: Much brighter, almost a "ping" sound but followed by a nice dark shimmer underneath... crashable but not too trashy. You have a bit more control with this one, but the sound isn't as rich or historic sounding as the 22". The bell is cutting with some wash to follow as it resonates right through the cymbal, and sounds a part of it rather than a seperate entity, like on heavier rides.
22" Medium: This thing is a sophisticated beast. Super loud and defined sticking followed by a dark rich shimmer... almost a "hiss". The stick sound (if you use a medium weight stick with a nice ball tip, such as the Vic Firth SD-2) is nice and woody, cutting but warm. The bell is super loud too and sends some spread through the cymbal. The crashability is crazy, and given it's size it takes a while for it to open up and then decay... mean trashy, but rich crash. When you get this thing rockin' it wobbles like you have never seen a cymbal wobble before! I don't know if this is a good thing!
I don't really play jazz either... and you don't have to, no one ever said you have to play jazz to use these rides. For rock, I would go for either one really, but in the end these might not be the best sound for rock... but cool and different nonetheless. That's kinda what I will use mine for anyhow!
I have the 20" up on Ebay right now if you want to bid or see pics :

May I ask why in gods name you are selling this?
I was just wondering if these rides are going to have as a big a variation in sound from cymbal to cymbal as the Const's do. I've heard Const's that sound awsome and ones (same size) that sound washy and trashy.
Susperia - Well, I kept the 22" for myself. Since I have never seen an Artisan listed on Ebay I wanted to break it into the online/auction market to see if I could sell it for enough to pay off both of them! It was a toss up between that and letting it age. Want to place a bid?
matricks - Consider this ride an investment. Maybe it will not fit in your family of B8 or B8 PRO cymbals, but even if you let it sit collecting dust for 10 years, it's value will only increase.
DeeP - Yeah, I do think that there will be variations in sounds between each artisan ride, since they are hand made, and the goal was for each one to have it's own special voice. Sabian only makes a few of these per day and tests them all before they are sent out, so I woulden't worry about any bunk sounding artisans!
I see Chris. Being able to pay off for both of them would be great, good luck with that! I see that it went from 9 Dollars to over 200 over night, so that shouldn't be a problem. That also shows me that I wouldn't have a chance in the bidding...
